Tiverton’s Fort Barton School #2 overall in state

Rank is for reading, math combined; school ties #1 in reading

TIVERTON — Fort Barton Elementary School scored a double victory statewide recently in test score rankings. The school is the second ranked elementary school overall in Rhode Island in combined math and reading scores, Principal Suzette Wordell said last Thursday. In reading proficiency alone, said Ms. Wordell, Fort Barton School tied for first place in the state, having improved school scores in that area over the last three years by 15%, up from 84% to 97%.

TIVERTON — Polls closed Saturday at 4 p.m., ending three days of early voting in the town’s first-ever Financial Town Referendum (FTR), with just 2% of the town’s estimated 12,050 registered voters casting ballots on two budget proposals and five resolves.

LITTLE COMPTON — By a vote of 568 to 89, Little Compton voters Tuesday gave the go-ahead to the issuance of $11.3 million in bonds to renovate Wilbur & McMahon School. It was an 86%, or better than 6:1, margin of victory.
