EAST BAY — Rain on Thursday, Jan. 12, caused the R.I. Department of Environmental Management to close parts of the bay to shellfishing. Closed as of noon on Thursday were Conditional Areas A and B, the Conimicut triangle, Greenwich Bay, the Kickemuit River and Mt. Hope Bay. They are due to reopen at sunrise Friday, Jan. 20.
As of mid-day Thursday, 1.51 inches of rain had fallen at T.F. Green Airport and over an inch had been tallied at Taunton, Mass. For updates on conditional areas, call the DEM hotline at 222-2900.
