TIVERTON — The family of John Kieron, who died Feb. 1 after being hit on Main Road near Hilton Street last Thanksgiving eve by a driver who left the scene, are asking anyone who can help to please contact police with any information they have.

Tanya Kieron, one of the victim’s two daughters, appeared with police last Friday at Tiverton headquarters to make her appeal.

“She made an emotional plea to have the person driving the car turn himself or herself in,” said Police Lieutenant Patrick Jones.

The incident occurred Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 5:14 p.m. in front of the north Tiverton fire station on Main Road.

Paramedics who rushed to the scene out front to attend to the victim, report that a woman, who has since vanished, came up to them on foot and said she’d seen it happen and told the medics that it was a “light colored sedan” that had hit Mr. Kieron.

Police would like to talk to this woman, and are asking her “to please come forward,” said Lt. Jones, so police can get additional information.

Lt. Jones said the pavement was dry, and there were no signs (e.g. skid marks) that the suspect vehicle had attempted to stop. The victim, he said, was struck in the torso by the side view mirror on the passenger side.

“The mirror was ripped from the car. We have the mirror, but it’s been difficult to identify the mirror to the car,” Lt. Jones said.

“We’ve checked with about 75 auto body parts dealers and distributors. We’ve sent the parts from the scene to the state crime lab at the University of Rhode Island for examination, and we’re working with local and state law enforcement agencies,” Lt. Jones said.

“We’ve also checked with the National Insurance Crime Bureau in an effort to identify the car,” he said.

“There’s no question that this case will remain open. We will continue to investigate. We have every intention of identifying the party responsible,” Lt. Jones said.
