Tiverton seniors deserved polling place respect

To the editor:

After casting my vote on November 8, I left the Amicable Church and walked out down the sidewalk. A bus arrived from Sakonnet Bay Manor that was full of seniors. Many of them descended with difficulty, proceeding slowly using canes or walkers.

As they came to the sidewalk, people surrounded them, calling out loudly, “Remember what we discussed” ... “Vote yes on Question 2” ... “Only vote yes on 2” ... Be sure to vote yes on 2.”

It was appalling to witness these plucky folk being harassed and intimidated.

As a U.S. citizen, a 73-year-old Tiverton resident, I believe each of us is entitled to cast our vote with pride, dignity, and in peace.

I was there when that bus came to Amicable, and no one said "“Remember what we discussed”, and they were not harassed at all. I think you need to stick to the facts. And I was with several others who saw the bus arrive and depart.
