TIVERTON — Stafford Pond in Tiverton is among several Rhode Island bodies of water being stocked with trout in advance of winter ice fishing season. During the next two weeks, staff from DEM’s Division of Fish and Wildlife will stock a total of 100 salmon and 500 rainbow trout in six ponds statewide. Stafford Pond will receive rainbow trout averaging 3 to 5 pounds each. The fish were raised at the Perryville Trout Hatchery specifically for the ice fishing season. A current fishing license and a Trout Conservation Stamp are required to keep or possess a trout. The daily creel and possession limit for trout and domestic salmon stands at two per day. Anglers are reminded of a new regulation beginning in 2012 that prohibits the use of felt soled footgear in any state waters — fresh, tidal, or marine. This includes any waters shared with adjacent states in which Rhode Island Fishing Regulations apply.
