The Sakonnet Schooners Midget Division cheerleaders pose with their second-place trophy on the grounds of the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlanda, FL
ORLANDO, FL — The Sakonnet Schooners Midget Division cheerleaders gave themselves, their families, friends and fellow local competitors something to cheer about when they placed second in the Midget Small Novice Division of the National Pop Warner Cheer and Dance Championships Dec. 9.
The Schooners, one of just 15 squads from throughout the country which qualified to compete for the national title in their division, finished as runners-up to the Linden (NJ) Tigers. The Tigers compiled an 80.57 score compared to the Schooners’ 75.95 score in the event held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
Representing the Sakonnet team, coached by Jodie Camara, Lisa Desrosiers, Lisa Piccolo, Alissa Salomon, Sherri Conklin, Kim Kiser, and Natalia Konorski, were Hayley Camara, Hayley Piccolo, Rebecca Desrosiers, Liz Sartini, Morgan Kulpa, Justine Maggiacomo, Sydney Costa, Heidi Kiser, Kiley Camara, Aubrey Destremps, Laura Destremps and Kayla Kozienowski.
The Schooners had a very successful tournament season beginning with a win in the Rhode Island Southeastern Massachusetts Conference Competition held in Providence in October. They then moved onto the New England semi-qualifier competition held in Springfield at the Mass Mutual Center in November and won that event.
The Schooners followed that up with a victory in the New England Regional Championships held later in November at the DCU Center in Worcester. That win catapulted the Schooners to the nationals where they claimed the runner-up prize.
